The Palo Alto Unified School District serves over 11,700 students in grades K through 12. Syserco was selected by the District to upgrade 12 elementary, 3 middle, and 2 high schools to an Alerton Ascent Energy Management System. The new Alerton EMCS at Palo Alto USD was designed to reduce energy consumption and meet Title 24 requirements while improving classroom learning environments.
This flexible and scalable system provides single seat operation of the District’s HVAC and lighting infrastructure, allowing District maintenance staff to quickly and easily respond to teacher requests all from a single location. The systems reduce energy consumption and ensure student comfort by incorporating optimal start strategies that use historical data to learn the best start time of the HVAC equipment. For example, based on historical data, the system will learn to turn on at 6am in order to reach the desired 73 degrees by 7:30am, when school begins.
Through collaboration between the District’s Energy Manager and Syserco’s engineering team, the implemented energy saving strategies have resulted in annual, District-wide energy savings of over 10%.
