August 12th, 2015 at Milpitas, CA – Syserco’s second year in a row, employee volunteers from Syserco partnered with Family Giving Tree for their 20th Annual Back-to-School Drive to help underserved K-12 students across the Bay Area and to encourage STEM Education. The Back-to-School Drive delivers backpacks filled with essential, grade-appropriate school supplies to K-12 children who qualify for the Federal Free & Reduced Lunch program.
Exceeding our goal of 20 filled backpacks, Syserco employees joined together to purchase and donateover 30 backpacks packed full of school supplies. Numerous Syserco volunteers also teamed together to assist The Family Giving Tree at their warehouse, located in Milpitas, CA, where they helped to sort, pack and deliver hundreds of backpacks filled with donated supplies.
According to The Family Giving Tree’s website, a total of 36,720 supply-filled backpacks were delivered to Bay Area schools and nonprofit agencies. 4,000 additional backpacks were filled and delivered throughout this year’s Back-to-School Drive, extending the organization’s reach to even more students throughout the Bay Area where one out of every four children lives below the poverty line.
Syserco is very thankful to partake in such an amazing opportunity to be a part of this great cause for making a difference in children’s lives. We are looking forward to once again partner with The Family Giving Tree for their Christmas Drive in December!
The Family Giving Tree fulfills the exact holiday wishes and provides backpacks filled with school supplies to those children in the most need in our communities while inspiring the values of kindness, philanthropy and volunteerism.
The Family Giving Tree began in 1990 as a San Jose State University MBA class project. Jennifer Cullenbine and Todd Yoshida were asked to “create a program that adds value to someone else’s life.” They created the Family Giving Tree with hope of providing holiday gifts to 300 children in East Palo Alto. Encouraged by the success of the first year, Jennifer decided to continue and expand the organization. In the 23rd year of the program’s existence, the total number of gifts and backpacks donated had grown to over 900,000, making the Family Giving Tree the largest gift and backpack donation program in California.
